Project Overview
With sustainability being a focal point for Canon customers, there's a growing demand for data-backed credibility concerning both the total cost of ownership and sustainable performance. I worked on this project at my time at Yabba Data Doo, a software consultancy in Amsterdam, with Canon Production Printing as their client.
The Colorado Sustainability Calculator assists Canon's sales and marketing teams by providing data-based insights and predictions concerning the Canon Colorado printer's sustainability performance. This tool not only offers key performance metrics but also predicts CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, and potential cost savings, giving a more complete picture of the printer's long-term sustainability. Users can also input their own data for direct comparisons with other technologies.
Powered by big data gathered from printer sensors, the application applies predictive analytics to offer a robust, data-driven approach to sustainability. This aligns well with Canon's aim to provide credible, data-supported information during sales conversations.
Every potential customer can enter their own usage values, like amount of media, ink, etc.
The application delivers a snappy dashboard of the customer's footprint (energy, CO2), and some interesting analogies to showcase potential savings.
Customers want to see how Canon's tech compares to other players in the market. Here they can see a detailed comparison with relation to energy, ink, cost, and other metrics.
Canon puts an emphasis on sustainable printing, which often goes unnoticed. This application is also an opportunity for showcasing other initaitives the company has undertaken.
The application was developed in six sprints with continuous feedback from the Canon project team, where I worked as a consultant (client facing) and the product designer. We first executed an exploratory data analysis to identify USPs where Canon outperforms its competitors, and then co-created several prototypes in iterations along with finetuning the data and calculations. I worked closely with the data team to understand technical constraints, and also with the Canon team to understand business requirements, which I finally distilled into the main concepts presented above.
